THE THANKFUL TREE TRADITION is an engaging way to get children and families focused on gratitude. 

The Bible is full of references to gratitude and being thankful (see the verse pages at the end of this file), and as Christians we have so much to be thankful for. Yet, at the same time, as people, we struggle with giving thanks, and instead find ourselves murmuring and grumbling (think of the Israelites in the wilderness, and your own heart last time something didn’t do to plan).

Enter “THE THANKFUL TREE.” The Thankful Tree is a way that as a family (or class) you focus on thanksgiving and gratitude for a month and rejoice in all the blessings in our lives instead of what we wish we had. The Thankful Tree Tradition is something that can be done at any time of the year, but for Americans it makes sense to follow this tradition in the month of November along with Thanksgiving, and then entering advent and the Christmas season with a heart of gratitude. [Canadians, may choose to do this in September & October surrounding your Thanksgiving, and others may choose to do this at any point of the year, although the printables do have an autumn bent.]
