Easter Confusion – A Simple, Gospel-Centered Easter Play for Kids

Looking for an easy, meaningful, and fun way to include children in your church’s Easter worship service? “Easter Confusion” is a simple, gospel-centered children’s Easter program designed for small to medium-sized churches and busy ministry leaders. This engaging Easter play retells the true story of Easter in a way kids can understand—and your whole church will enjoy.

The story begins with a group of kids confused by eggs, bunnies, and candy. But as they open the Bible, they discover the real meaning of Easter—Jesus’ death and resurrection. With a few laughs and plenty of truth, this production clearly communicates the Easter message for kids and families.

We know that Easter programs can be a challenge to lead—costumes, props, rehearsals, and backup plans for sick kids can be overwhelming. That’s why Easter Confusion is intentionally designed to be simple, flexible, and low-prep. Most speaking parts have just one line, props are minimal, and a confident reader leads the narration. Whether you have 6 kids or 50, this children’s ministry Easter drama fits your setting perfectly—and only takes about 15 minutes to perform.

Why Children’s Ministry Leaders Love This Easter Program:

  • Low-prep and easy to lead – minimal costumes, simple props, and color-coded scripts.
  • Perfect for smaller churches – works well with limited volunteers and flexible cast sizes.
  • Engaging and gospel-focused – clearly communicates the true meaning of Easter.
  • Fun for kids, meaningful for the congregation – makes Easter Sunday extra special.

SAMPLE SCRIPT:

To help you decide if this production is right for your church, here is a sample portion of the script. [NOTE: No scripture is directly quoted in the script, this is a retelling.]

Scene 1: Jesus prays

(Jesus, Peter, and those dressed as crowd follow the instructions of the narrator. If you have lots of kids, a few can be trees – wear “tree” nametags and stand with their arms up in the air. Judas and the soldiers need to be ready to march in.)

Narrator:
Welcome to the true, and hopefully not confusing, story of Easter. I’m your narrator and I’ll be guiding you, and our actors, through the story today.

(Look up at the screen)

Oh yes, the garden. That’s where we are. These men are Jesus and His disciples. One night, they went to the garden to pray. They walked into the garden together. The disciples all sat down, and Jesus walked away from them, knelt down and prayed. Jesus prayed, asking God for strength. His disciples were tired and fell asleep.

(Jesus bows to pray, and Peter and others sit down.)

Jesus:
Father, not My will, but Yours be done.

Narrator:
Then, Judas came in with soldiers to arrest Jesus. They marched into the garden with swords. Judas kissed Jesus to show the soldiers who Jesus was, and told them to arrest Him.

(Soldiers & Judas march in.)

Judas:
This is the One—arrest Him.

(Soldiers use a piece of rope to tie Jesus’ hands in front of him and start leading Him off.)

Narrator:
The soldiers tied Jesus’ hands and led Him off. Jesus had been arrested. Peter tried to stop them, but Jesus said, “No, this is God’s plan. This has to happen.”

Jesus:
“No, this is God’s plan. This has to happen.”
